A lot of people know they can save a ton of money on clothing, so it’s no wonder that they buy most things online. The problem with this is there are a lot of clothing websites which might be scams but still there are some legit fashion and lifestyle blog. How do you know?
Well we’ll look at the 5 different warning signs for spotting a potential scam, these warning signs are all things which the majority of clothing and fashion website might do, so you’ll usually get a pretty good idea if it’s a scam or not.
As a fashion lover myself, I can honestly say that it’s really annoying having to deal with all these scams. They really tarnish the image of those who genuinely want to make good deals and those who want to make money from selling their clothes.
But surely there has got to be some legit businesses out there as well? Sure enough, there are. But these scam websites outnumber the legitimate ones by a significant amount.
So without further ado, let us get on with it!
Terrible Website Design
It’s not very hard to create a website which you can use to sell clothes, so don’t expect it to have that high-quality feel about it just. Moreclothes.com is a good example of a scam website.
They don’t provide their contact details
One thing we always recommend is to check where the website is hosted and under what domain name. Sometimes websites will either try or be anonymous or they will have a fake ‘.com’ extension. If the website is hosted in china with a ‘.cn’ extension, it’s probably one of those websites.
We recommend looking at their contact details too which might be provided on their about us page, if that doesn’t exist then look for it by checking out the footer of the website, if you can’t find it at all then it’s likely a scam.
Their websites look like they were made very quickly
A lot of scam clothing websites will be pretty badly designed with text which doesn’t make sense or images which are obviously taken from the internet. Legitimate clothing websites or any website for that matter, will usually take time to make their website which matches the products they sell and makes it user friendly, take for example Mommy lifestyle website.
They seem too good to be true (price wise)
A lot of scam websites often provide really low prices compared to other clothing websites. If the website is offering things extremely cheap, it might be a scam.
No About information
A lot of scam websites will either not provide any ‘’About’’ information on their website or they will provide some terribly difficult to find information. On their about page or footer, look for something like ‘contact us’ or their email address. Without this, it probably isn’t a legitimate website.
The Return Policy
If you’re still unsure and would like to be 100% sure that the site is legit, we recommend: Signing up for an account on the website (if they ask you to) and then checking if they provide a ‘Returns Policy’. If they don’t provide anything like this, then it’s probably a scam website.
Please note that these 5 warning signs aren’t the only things you should be looking for; but they are the main ones. If you would like to know more about what to look out for when buying clothes online (including reviews, checking reviews etc.) please visit our blog.
